"In this talk, we will present our group's recent results on string processing problems related to subsequences. A word u is a subsequence of another word w if u can be obtained from w by deleting some of w's letters. The first problem we tackle in this talk is the efficient testing of Simon's Congruence. Two words are k-Simon-congruent if they have exactly the same sets of subsequences of length at most k. The second problem is the Edit Distance of a word w to the set of words which have all possible strings of length k as subsequence. These are called k-subsequence universal words." - Stefan & Mia

"The Sequence Read Archive currently stores petabytes of DNA-sequences. However, sequence similarity searching through this amount of sequences is not practical with current algorithms due to the large memory requirements for database index tables and insufficient speeds. Therefore, we developed the Petasearch algorithm. We reduce the required memory through the usage of a diff-index structure.
